French chef David Toutain, who earned two Michelin stars in 2019, recently spent time at Heritage Le Château, developing its new menu. Take a moment to discover the four different culinary offers now available on the estate!


If you’d like a gourmet meal


Cannelloni, Revisited

As he does every year, David Toutain drew inspiration from the Mauritian terroir – and the Indian Ocean region more widely – to craft a unique, refined gourmet menu for Heritage Le Château. Among the starters are Madagascan caviar served with cream of avocado from the estate, as well as duck foie gras and mandarin-infused butter. In homage to the sea, a delicate and fragrant Thai basil mousseline accompanies magnificent Baie du Cap squid. Braised shellfish is served alongside local patisson and a mousse of rocket picked fresh from the garden. Meat-lovers can choose from stewed boar with smoked aubergine, Angus beef ribs and spiced cauliflower with tamarind, duck breast, or a rack of lamb served with piquillo peppers in Chamarel honey.

sweet treats at La Miellerie Bel Ombre

In fact, honey is the main event at La Miellerie, an artisanal deli located a few steps away from the Château. Inaugurated in late 2019, the deli is the brainchild of Frédéric Gille, the Château’s Director and head sommelier. As a self-confessed foodie, his aim is to promote high-quality local and regional products. Here, you’ll find honey from Chamarel and Madagascar, Mauritian litchi wine, local and organic herbal teas, sweet treats, and an entire range of terrines and rillettes made in Bel Ombre from local game – all available either to take away or sample on the spot.


For grilled delights

Since December 2019, Heritage Bel Ombre has been home to a new restaurant for meat lovers: the O’Grill. Open from breakfast to dinner, the restaurant seats up to 82 diners – including 22 on the terrace, which offers stunning views of the golf course. Over and above its delicious starters (which include some vegetarian options), O’Grill’s speciality is grills cooked in an Ofyr oven: organic ribeye from Australia, Angus rib steak, pork chops and even seafood. Don’t leave without ordering the roasted pineapple served with a caramel sauce for dessert.


To enjoy a meal outdoors

Epicures in search of adventure will enjoy the best of both worlds when they picnic at Heritage Nature Reserve. The ultra-welcoming team will pick you up in a Land Rover and take you to one of two picnic areas specially designed by international agency Nomadic Resorts. Breathe in the fresh air, admire the wild and beautiful landscape and reconnect with your loved ones around a bottle of Prosecco, a ti punch or a proudly Mauritian beer. You’ll nibble on local specialties (including moolkoo, octopus salad with lime, herbed venison burger and even breadfruit) as well as delicacies from around the world (bruschetta with prosciutto, Satay chicken with raita, whole grilled ears of corn…). After this feast beneath the trees, enjoy traditional Mauritian games such as Molky or Tic Tac Toe, to have a bit of fun as you digest!
