The largest of its kind in Mauritius, Frederica Nature Reserve is a haven for lovers of wide open spaces and wonderful landscapes, providing them with an intoxicating out-of-this-world feeling. Since 2009, it has found a partner of choice in the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, a non-governmental organisation working in favour of the protection, preservation and conservation of the island’s endemic and indigenous fauna and flora.
For lovers of active tourism
The reserve is a true sanctuary and one of the few places where you can still find species unique to Mauritius, knowing that there remains only about 2% of endemic forests across the country. Some 50% of the species growing in this transitional forest area – between dry coastal forest areas and humid highlands – are endemic or native, some of which are among the rarest in the world. It is also home to a wide variety of animal species.
The landscape of this largely untouched expanse of nature is dotted with wooded hills, vast plains and streams interspersed with waterfalls. Its hilly terrain offers spectacular views that extend from the adjacent Black River Gorges National Park to the gorgeous shades of emerald, turquoise and deep blue of the ocean.
A paradise of striking unspoilt beauty that provides a great escape into the wild, up close with nature...
